Loss of licence points and licence revocation in Portugal

Points are deducted when the administrative decision or court judgment becomes final. Receiving the offence notice does not itself change your balance.

What to check in your case

A serious offence generally costs two points and a very serious one four. Article 148 provides for higher deductions in specified cases, including continued use of a hand-held phone while driving. Five points or fewer can trigger compulsory training, three or fewer a theory test, and a zero balance gives rise to separate revocation proceedings. Check your record against each final decision and its date.
