Tolls, tax and other fines

Building works without permission or prior notification

Whether prior approval was required depends on the work, location and law in force at the time. The municipality may allege absence of permission or departure from an approved design.

What to check in your case

Describe each stage, identify who commissioned it and compare drawings with photographs. Defending a fine and responding to a stop-work order, restoration order or regularisation procedure may involve different issues and deadlines. Send all decisions received.

Documents for your defence

Full notice or decision, front and back, and evidence of the date of service.

  • Design, permit or prior notice and site plans
  • Inspection report, dated photographs and any stop-work order
